Outlook 2010 Continues to Prompt for Credentials for Yahoo Account
Hi Tokarev,
Yahoo requires an app password to add the account to Outlook, even if you don't have their extra security features enabled.
From https://www.slipstick.com/outlook/yahoo-aol-acc...:
To generate an app password to use in place of your "real" password:
Log into your account security settings in Yahoo or AOL and click on Manage app passwords.
Select your app from the list and click Generate. (Choosing the app is to make it easier to delete (revoke) a specific password if you need to later. You can use the app password in any application.)
Copy the password and paste it into Outlook's password dialog. If you type it in, don't include the spaces, they just make the password easier to read.
To change the password in Outlook 2016 and newer, use the File > Account Settings > Server settings menu.

Hi Diane -
Thanks again for responding.
I could try that next (I'll be at her home tomorrow), but the same situation was encountered on her previous computer (same OS, same Outlook version),
wherein it seemed I had to generate a new app password for her every 1-3 weeks.
I'm trying to get ahead of this and see what else can be done to permanently resolve this for her.

I haven't had to regenerate my yahoo passwords that often, but from what I understand, yahoo's are a single use - many other app passwords can be reused if you save it.
What antivirus does she use?

Hi Diane -
She's using Avast and Malwarebytes.
Funny thing is, she has two Yahoo accounts linked to Outlook,
and only one of them seems to have this problem (I added them
both in the same session to Outlook).

Does she use an HP printer or cabonite? Those two will cause password problems - but I thought it affected all accounts (but I don't use either so didn't test).

Hi Diane -
Yes, and Yes.
Two HP Printers, and Carbonite. (yikes!)
Carbonite saved her twice (ransom attack,
fire that destroyed her apt and computers),
so I think a cloud-based backup is still essential,
but I could always switch her.
I'm shocked that a certain type of printer and/or Carbonite would do that.
So... all in all, so far, just one of the two Outlook-connected Yahoo accounts
keeps blaring that "password prompt" in her face.

The issue is with a task the apps create - you can disable the tasks - see https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/fo... for instructions.
Carbonite should still work ok (although a client still had password problems and disabled carbonite - enabling it to do backups..)

Hi Diane,
Can I just chip in here please? It is on the same subject so I am not hijacking this thread.
I have an Outlook Yahoo POP3 account. I have a laptop and a desktop.
I generated a password for the laptop Yahoo POP3 account and that worked. Will that same password need to be put into the same Yahoo POP3 account on my desktop for it to stick?
Thanks
HB
